An hour and ten minutes. The closest resort to Cointrin, and probably the one where most is expected of a driver — because the journey is short, everything else shows.
Megève is roughly 70 kilometres from Geneva Airport, or one hour to one hour twenty depending on traffic. It is by far the shortest of our Alpine routes, and that changes the nature of the service entirely.
On a three-hour run to Val d'Isère, a client will forgive a few imperfections. On seventy minutes, those are all he sees: the cleanliness of the vehicle, punctuality to the minute, the way the door is opened, silence or conversation according to preference. Megève is a service resort, not only a ski resort.
The drive takes the autoroute blanche towards Chamonix, then turns off at Sallanches into the Arly valley. The road is good, cleared regularly, and the village's modest altitude — a little over 1,100 metres — keeps it passable in almost all conditions.
Megève sits outside the Tarentaise, so our vehicles do not come up from Moûtiers for this route: we position the driver according to your timing, including for very early flights.
A word on access, because that is where the last five minutes are decided. The chalets of Mont d'Arbois and Rochebrune are reached by private roads that are often steep, narrow and walled with snow in high season. Some cannot be attempted on inadequate tyres; others require a manoeuvre on arrival. We know them, and we will tell you frankly if an access is not passable on the day rather than committing and blocking the road.
Megève also shares its ski area with Saint-Gervais, Combloux and La Giettaz within Évasion Mont-Blanc. Many of our passengers stay in Megève and ski elsewhere, or the reverse. Road journeys between these villages are part of our routine work, as are end-of-day recoveries when a lift has closed for wind.
Two practical points about Geneva itself, because they cause more problems than the mountain road does.
The airport has two exits. Geneva has a French sector with its own road access, separate from the Swiss one. Leaving by the wrong one means collecting your bags on one side of an international border and looking for your driver on the other. We confirm the exact meeting point before you travel, and your driver waits with a name board. If you do come out on the wrong side, one call is enough — adapting is our job, not yours.
Documents. The drive to Megève crosses the Franco-Swiss border. Every passenger, children included, needs a valid passport or national identity card; non-Schengen nationals need the relevant visa. Checks are occasional but real, and an expired document turns a seventy-minute transfer into a very bad day.
Time on the ground. Allow thirty to forty-five minutes from landing to setting off, longer on a Saturday in the school holidays. That delay is built into the flight tracking and no waiting charge applies.
Delays and diversions. Tell us as soon as you know. A cancelled flight is rebooked at no charge onto the new slot, subject to availability. A diversion to Lyon, Annecy or Chambéry is handled case by case: we look for the solution first and discuss the fare afterwards.
A word on who travels with us here, because Megève is unlike the high-altitude resorts. A significant share of our passengers never put on skis: they come for the village, the restaurants, the shops and the quiet. Others come for two or three days between meetings. Both expect a car that is available rather than a single transfer, which is why hourly and daily hire with a driver is our most requested service in this resort.
Families are the other constant. Child seats and boosters are supplied and fitted before you arrive — tell us each child's age and weight when booking. Ski-school runs, mid-afternoon collections and evening returns are planned in advance rather than improvised by telephone each morning.
For agencies, chalet operators and concierge services, we work with a single point of contact, centralised invoicing and dedicated seasonal terms. If you are handling several arrivals on the same day we run a convoy rather than a series of separate bookings, so that a group reaches its chalet together.
Finally, a note on privacy, which matters more in Megève than almost anywhere. Our vehicles carry no branding, our drivers take no photographs and make no comment, and non-disclosure agreements are signed on request. We also coordinate directly with security details and personal assistants where that is how you prefer to work.
A good many of our passengers come here without ever putting on skis. That changes how the service has to work.
Place de l'Église, cobbled streets, horse-drawn sleighs. Traffic is restricted and partly pedestrianised in season: we drop at the authorised point nearest your hotel and know the service accesses of the great houses.
The landmark addresses in the village and the private chalets of Mont d'Arbois and Rochebrune. Some private drives are steep and narrow: we know them and commit knowingly.
Megève has one of the densest concentrations of restaurants in the Alps, in the village and on the mountain. An evening car at your disposal is our most frequent request here — well ahead of the transfer itself.
Golf, hiking, summer festivals, autumn weekends: unlike the high-altitude resorts, Megève lives outside the ski season. We cover transfers here beyond the winter months on request.
On seventy minutes of road there is nothing to make up for. The vehicle is immaculate or it is not; the driver is there on time or he is not.
Geneva ↔ MegèveMegève has an altiport on the Mont d'Arbois plateau, used by light aircraft and helicopters. Like every mountain altiport it depends on the weather and on qualified crews: a low cloud base is enough to send the aircraft back to Geneva, Annecy or Chambéry.
That is one reason many of our business-aviation passengers land at Geneva and finish by road: seventy minutes is an acceptable journey, and it does not depend on the ceiling. We coordinate directly with the crew or handler — met in the general aviation terminal, luggage taken, immediate departure.
If you are diverted in flight, tell us and we reposition the vehicle to the alternate airport. There is also a heliport in the village, widely used for links to Geneva and to Italy; we cover pick-ups there with the same coordination.
In Megève the important part happens after you arrive: dinners, shops, the valley, the heliport.
A return run to a table in the village or on the mountain, with the driver waiting. No parking to find, no one driving home, and nobody counting their glasses.
Vehicle and driver at your disposal: Combloux, Saint-Gervais, Chamonix, Annecy — or simply waiting through your appointments.
Child seats and boosters supplied and fitted before you arrive. Ski-school runs and end-of-day collections are planned in advance.
Unmarked vehicles, no photographs, no comment. Megève receives a well-known clientele: discretion here is not a sales line but a condition of trading.
Your flight, your address in Megève, your plans for the week.
